If you don’t know what is Nik Software. It is a group of plugins package that’s dedicated for Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop. It is very popular among the photographers, but not everyone can afford the high price tag of USD500 when it was released.

At 2012, Google bought over Nik Software to acquired the core technology of the software for its own editing application for smartphones. Google dropped the price of the software to USD 150 in the year 2016 and then made it FREE. At that time, we thought that was going to be the end of the Nik Software, as Google also announced that they had no plan to update the Nik Collection or add new features over time. In 2017, DxO took over the Nik Collection from Google and released a new version of the software.
The new version of the software, which is also known as Nik Collection by DxO 2018 now, is having a modest price tag of USD69. That’s a lot cheaper compared to the started Price USD500.
To be honest, as a big fan of Nik Software and I’m still using it in part of my post-processing workflow, I’m glad that DxO finally took it over and I’m really hoping there will be new features adding in in future. At this stage, the 2018 and 2012 version doesn’t really show much difference, except better compatibility with the latest operating system, Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. However, if you wish to have assistance from DxO regarding any issue of the software, then you should get the 2018 version. 2012 version is no more supported.
